A spinal adjustment is a safe, natural, non-invasive procedure used by the chiropractor to restore and improve health. The adjustment is a very specific application of forces used to facilitate the body’s correction of the nerve interference. The force must be given with the right amount of pressure in the proper direction at the right time.
Learning the art of adjusting is a skill that requires years of study and practice. Chiropractic Doctors are the only health care professionals trained to deliver the chiropractic adjustment. Spinal adjustments by any other individual or heatlh care professional have been shown to be dangerous and less effective.
The adjustment has one purpose and one purpose only-to correct or reduce nerve interference. the potential healing of a symptomatic condition or disease often results from the correct nerve flow to the affected area and improvement of your overall body chemistry. The symptom is usually the WARNING signal to you that something is wrong.
Several reactions may occur after the first adjustment: The patient will experience a restful nights sleep followed by an increase of energy The patient will experience a better sense of focus and accomplish more tasks in a lesser time Some patients will express that their symptoms start to alleviate only after one adjustment
Some patients may experience discomfort after their first adjustment due to the detoxification of the body after the adjustment. As well the body has been restricted for a period of time and now is being asked to wake up and move as it was designed to do. As they heal, they become more sensitive and the old injury or pain may return during a necessary and beneficial body phenomenon called “retracing”. During this period of retracing the healing process is repeated as if the injury had happened yesterday.
“In the future, chiropractic will be valued for its preventative qualities as much as for relieving and adjusting the cause of ailments” -B.J. Palmer, D.C.
